Continuing you on with my series on what I do each week in my Math 2 class, we are moving on to week 4. This was a short week for us since we had a teacher workday on Monday. I spent my workday planning out my lessons for the next few weeks, making copies, and updating grades. It felt so great to leave and have everything organized and ready to go for the week.

Now for what we did in Math 2...

Tuesday: We spent all day practicing factoring. We did a short set of notes that made my students focus on if they needed to take out a GCF prior to factoring or not. This is usually something my students miss, so spending a day on it is something I have always found to be helpful. We used whiteboards to practice beyond our notes, so I could see what students need more individual attention and what students were good to practice independently. After that they continued to work on their DeltaMath assignment.

Wednesday: Today my class quizzed on factoring. Since this topic is important in Math 2, Math 3 and beyond, I like to make sure they can do it before we continue on with our Quadratics unit. Not every semester allows us time to fit in this quiz, so if we don't have the time for it - this is usually the quiz I omit first. Before the quiz we practiced for about 30 minutes and got their brains thinking and ready to go. When they turned in their quiz, they got their spiral review homework of the unit since they have a test coming up at the end of the week.

Thursday: Today is test review day. We started class going over their key features quiz and the factoring quiz from yesterday. After that, we reviewed the main points together as a whole class. Then I gave my students time to work on their review packets. I typically make their review packets for test pretty long because I want them to have more than what they may need to practice and study. Because of this I don't assign the entire packet - I just tell them to do the problems that they need the most practice on. This is also a good study tool to learn how to do and prepare yourself to use once you get to college - so it is helpful for my sophomore to get used to doing now.

Friday: It is the end of the week and also test day! My favorite kind of days. On test days I spend about 5-10 minutes answering any questions they may have and then it is go time. I pass out the tests, and they turn it in once they are finished. So units they will grab a homework spiral review, but this unit they just needed to wait quietly for everyone to finish.

This is our fourth week of math 2 all wrapped up. Please keep in mind that I have 85 minute classes, so some things may need to be adjusted based on how long your class periods are.
